ATEC wasintroduced totheHT700seriestransmission in­ cluding theCLBT755seriesoff-highway transmis­ sionsin1984. InJanuary 1986,theATECsystemreplaced the current SPGelectronics acrosstheboardon5,6,8, and9000seriesoff-highway transmissions. ATEC provides greatercapability andincreased reliability at areduced costovertheSPGelectronics. TheATEC systemiscurrently inafieldtestprogram thatwill continue through thefirstyearofproduction to monitor itsreliability improvement overtheSPG system. Controlled testingtoSAEstandards have quantified fueleconomy andproductivity gainswith ATEC. ALLISON INTRODUCED ITSFIRSTELECTRON­ ICALLY CONTROLLED transmission in1971withthe discrete logicshiftpatterngenerator (SPG)offered on theDP8000seriestransmission. Overalltransmission performance wasimproved byreplacing hydraulic controls withelectro-hydraulic controls. TheSPG systemutilized analogdiscrete logicelectronics to automatically command rangechanges basedupon speedandthrottle whileusingahydraulic valvebody onlyforcontrolduringtheapplication ofthetrans­ missionclutches.
