SYSTEM OVERVIEW
Anadvanced proof-of-concept ac
electric vehicle powertrain, called the
electric transaxle (ETX), hasbeen
designed andbuilt byFordMotor Com
pany,WithGeneral Electric Company as
asubcontractor, asamajorelement of
theDepartment ofEnergy's Electric
andHybrid Vehicle Program. The
powertrain wasdesigned toadvance thestate oftheartinEVpowertrain

Reduced complexity, improved drive
ability, andincreased energy efficiency
areamongtheadvantages whichcanbe
obtained through (on-board) computer
control ofpowertrains inbothconven
