Cumminshas nowjoined Voith Transmissions inoffering theL10engine withtheVoith DB63ADR angle drive transmission toprovide anewpowerpackage fortransverse installations intheNorth American transit market. Boththeengine andthetransmission haveincorporated unique features which allowthepackage tobeinstalled incurrent transit busOEMvehicles. Thispaperpresents thedevelopment of thatpackage. ASIGNIfICANT PORTION ofatransit property's operating budgetisusedforfuelpurchases. Duetothis,lifecyclecosting isbeing givengreater consideration asaguideto reducing theoverall operating costs. fuel economy hasalargeimpact onlifecycle costs. Anewpowerpackage, designed with fuelefficiency anddurability inmind,is nowavailable fortheNorthAmerican transit market. Thispaperdescribes thedevelopment and features oftheengine andtransmission whichmakeupthepackage.
