ABSTRACT
AISIN SEW CO., Ltd. Started the production of elec-
tronically controlled hydraulic automatic transmissions for me-
dium-duty trucks and buses in 1989. The number of vehicles on
the Japanese market in which this system is adopted is increas-
ing steadily. After reexamining market needs, AISIN SEW
CO., Ltd. has newly developed an electronically controlled hy-
draulic automatic transmission A580 which focuses on im-
proved input capacity, driving performance and fuel economy
for medium-duty trucks and buses and lessens learnt hm ex-
perience.
FOREWORD
This paper describes the features and specifications of
the electronically controlled hydraulic automatic transmission
A580 that AISIN SEW Co., Ltd. has newly developed for me-
dium-duty trucks and buses. First, we will describe the product
fiom the perspective of its application range and principal engi-
neering specifications. Then, we will discuss the suuceural
characteristics of this automatic transmission by component, as
well as the functions offered by the various performance im-
provement technologies incorporated into the product, and
how they were achieved. In addition, we
