ABSTRACT
Light and Medium Duty Trucks (N.A. Classes 2-7) make
up of a wide variety of vehicle configurations. Thesevehicles, in addition to providing the basic hauling needsof the industry, also provide distinct operational featuresdictated by the vocation they serve. This results inadditional auxiliary equipment and control features beingemployed.
The control system for Allison Transmission’s new 1000/
2000/2400 Series™ transmission was designed to satisfythe many requirements of this complex market. Thispaper will describe these features and how they interactwith various control aspects of the vehicle. Also, futurecontrol features will be discussed.
INTRODUCTION
NEW PRODUCT INTRODUCTION – The 1000/2000/2400 Series™ transmission is the latest new productoffering from Allison Transmission Division of GeneralMotors. Production began on June 1, 1999 after fouryears of development. The transmission is a fullyautomatic electronically controlled 5-speed transmissionwith one overdrive ratio, one reverse ratio and converterclutch available in the top four ratios.
MARKET – The transmission is intended for vehicles
ranging from heavy duty one-ton pickup trucks to 30,000lb. GVW medium duty on-highway
